Taken at the recent press conference of Tanghalang Pilipino’s 25th Season, held at the Casino Espanol along U.N. Avenue. Tanghalang Pilipino or TP is the resident theater company of the Cultural Center of the Philippines or CCP and has been responsible for mounting some of the finest and most original work known to local theater.
This season, they will be mounting several shows that are sure to bring TP to even greater heights, what with a sweep of the recent Gawad-Buhay Awards with the play Tatlong Mariya, and of course, the box-office hit Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah, Ze Muzikal.
Here are this season’s line-up:
- Noli Me Tangere starring Mark Bautista alternating with Gian Magdangal as Crisostomo Ibarra, and Cris Villongco as Maria Clara
- A Tony Perez Perspective featuring three of the playwrights most celebrated work: Bombita, Sierra Lakes, and Nobeyembre, Noong Akala Ko’y Mahal Kita
- D’ Emperor, based on the beloved children’s novel by Hans Christian Andersen
- Walang Kukurap, a provacative piece that blurs the lines between reality and fiction
- and Larawan, a classic Filpino piece by Nick Joaquin which will star Helen Gamboa and Gina Pareno
I didn’t get to catch Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah the last time despite it being restaged here in Manila for several runs. I know, I’m a spaz. The last TP show I saw must have been Golden Child starring my pal Liesl Batucan. I plan to watch fervently this year - starting with the forthcoming Virgin Labfest.
